Getting started

How do I set up my timetable?

When you first sign in, choose your role and region, then edit the school day (periods and times), then tap each cell of the timetable grid to add a subject, class and room. To start quickly, tap Fill with an example week and change it. You can redo this any time from Settings, Edit profile and timetable.

My school has a two-week timetable. Can I do that?

Yes. In setup choose Week 1 / Week 2 and pick any date in a Week 1. You fill in each week separately, and there's a button to copy one week onto the other.

How do I plan a lesson?

Tap any lesson on Today or Week, write a title, objectives and notes, and save. Use Repeat next week to copy the plan to the same lesson a week later, or try Sunday Sweep to plan the whole week.

Classes, marking and Lesson Mode

How do I add my classes and pupils?

Open Classes, tap New class, and type or paste your pupils, one per line. You can also import a CSV from your school system: only first names are kept. Please use first names or initials only, and never add sensitive details.

How does Lesson Mode know which class I'm teaching?

It matches the class name on your timetable to the name of a class in Classes. If your timetable says 9B, a class called 9B (or 9B Maths) is picked up automatically. If it doesn't appear, check the names match.

What's the homework and marking tracker?

Each class has a grid of pupils against assignments. Tap a cell to move a pupil from not handed in, to handed in, to marked, to missing. Your Today screen shows how many items are waiting to be marked, and a To chase list of pupils who haven't handed in overdue work.

Can I split a class into groups or sets?

Yes, it's optional. Open a class, choose Pupils, add groups such as Set 2 or Red table, then pick a group for each pupil. In the timetable you can set a slot to a group, and Lesson Mode, the pupil picker and the group maker then work within just that group.

Can I save a seating plan?

Yes. Open a class, choose Seating, tap a pupil and then a seat, and tap two seats to swap them. The plan saves with the class and shows in Lesson Mode.

Board view, timers and lesson extras

What is the board view?

Open Lesson Mode and press Board (or choose Show on the board on a lesson). It is a clean full-screen view for the projector with the lesson title, objectives, the current activity and one large countdown. Press Full screen, and the controls fade away after a few seconds.

Why is there only one timer?

Two clocks on screen are confusing, so the lesson countdown shows by default and an activity timer (for example 5 minutes for a task) takes over the display while it runs, then hands back to the lesson countdown when it ends or you press Back to lesson clock.

What is the entrance task?

A question, riddle, instruction or do-now task, with an optional list, that you set on a lesson. The board shows it before the lesson starts so pupils know what to do as they arrive.

Can I show my slides on the board?

Yes. Paste a Google Slides, PowerPoint online, Canva, Genially or Prezi link into the lesson and it appears beside the timer. For private decks the embed may not load, in which case there is an Open in a new tab button. In Google Slides share the deck as anyone with the link, and in PowerPoint online use File, Share, Embed.

How do PPA time and cancelled lessons work?

In Settings, Edit profile and timetable, tick PPA time on a slot and it shows as planning time and is never counted as a lesson. To cancel lessons for a trip, assembly or strike day, use Cancel lessons on Today or the calendar, choose the dates and a reason, and those lessons disappear from Today, Week, Sunday Sweep, your calendar feed and the Sunday email. You can restore them any time.

Can I attach files to a lesson?

Yes. Open a lesson, then Files, and attach PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, text or image files up to 10 MB each (100 MB in total). You can also add links. Files are private to you and deleted with the lesson or your account. Please don't upload anything containing pupils' personal details.

Devices and offline

Does it work on my phone and my school laptop?

Yes. It runs in any modern browser, so there's nothing to install on school laptops. On a phone you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app: in Safari tap Share then Add to Home Screen, and in Chrome use the install option.

What happens without a connection?

Your plans, timetable, tasks, classes and calendar still open from the copy saved on your device. Changes to lesson plans, tasks, check-ins and the marking tracker are kept and sync automatically when you're back online. Things like creating classes or events need a connection.

Can I see my timetable in Google or Apple Calendar?

Yes. In Settings choose Create my calendar link and add the link to your calendar app. Lessons, events and tasks with due dates then show there and stay up to date. Treat the link as private.

Billing and your account

How does the free trial work?

You add a card to start a free trial of everything, but nothing is charged during the trial. We email you a few days before it ends. If you do nothing your card is charged for the plan you chose; if you cancel before then (Settings, then Manage billing) you pay nothing. After a cancellation you can still view and export your plans, but you need a subscription to add or change things.

How do I cancel?

Open Settings and choose Manage billing, then cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in page choose Forgot your password to get a reset link, or Email me a sign-in link to sign in without a password. Both links expire and work once.

How do I change my email or password?

Both are in Settings. You'll need your current password to confirm.

Privacy and your data

Where is my data stored?

In a private database on our hosting provider's servers in London. It is backed up regularly. We don't sell your data or show adverts.

Can I take my data with me?

Yes. Settings has Download my data, which gives you everything in one file. You can also export any class's tracker as a spreadsheet.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. In Settings choose Delete my account and data, and confirm with your password. Everything is deleted and any subscription is cancelled.

Is it OK to put pupils' names in it?

Use first names or initials only, and never add medical, safeguarding or special-needs details. Check your school's data-protection policy before storing pupil names in any third-party tool.
